Revolution Rising,
Jennifer Walters
☆ TUESDAY, JUNE 11th: A superhero keeps their body on top shape. Today you will be heading to the gym where you will have J.A.R.V.I.S. as your personal trainer and an array of Tony’s musical collection for extra motivation. Upper body training by morning, lower body by evening for a grand total of at least two hours well spent at our gymnasium. Fail to attend and be prepared to face the consequences on the battlefield.
I didn't need the assistance of J.A.R.V.I.S to wake me up; I lacked sleep and felt as if I hadn't slept a wink last night. I had no explanation for my inability to sleep but I wasn't going to search for a reason or I might just fall asleep trying, though I highly doubted it. I stripped myself of the blankets and stood from bed, glancing at the floor-length mirror and looking at myself disgustedly. My hair was a mess and looked like a tangled nest whilst my shirt stuck to my torso. I had a shower to wake myself up despite knowing I'd need one after an insane work-out; I wouldn't have let myself leave my bedroom feeling as horrendous as I felt.
"Good morning, Miss Walters" J.A.R.V.I.S greeted me after I'd changed into my sport gear and took one last look at myself in the mirror. This time I looked neat with my hair tied back and a small smile was now comfortable on my lips.
"Morning" I responded, always feeling weird talking to what seemed like nothing. I adjusted my sports bra before leaving my bedroom, allowing it to lock behind me.
"You look fresh this morning" Wanda commented, jogging to catch up with me already down the hallway. I smiled at Wanda's compliment before responding, "you're looking fresher."
"You flatter me too much."
We both walked into the gym, only to be welcomed by the sight of Kyle showing a punching back just what he's made of but from what I was seeing, he wasn't made of much. I glanced at Wanda to see whether it would be her or I that would be making the witty comment.
It was going to be this time.
"Feeling some teenage angst?" I questioned him with a smirk, causing him to whirl around and face Wanda and I.
"You know it. All the angst is directed for my undying love towards you and Wanda. The love triangle is tearing me apart" Kyle managed to say between controlled breathes.
"Let me guess. This teenage love triangle stars you as the werewolf with his shirt off 90% of the time?" Wanda quipped.
"Why, yes it does. Shall I showcase the rock hard abs now?" Kyle teased beginning to lift up his shirt. Sure, he was worthy enough to look at but Thor had abs that would put Kyle's to shame.
And Kyle wasn't a god. Despite, how much he seemed to act like one or thought he was one.
"No. Don't make me go green" I warned as I raised my eyebrows.
"The plot thickens. A werewolf, a human and a green hued enchantress all are part of a wicked love triangle" Kyle replied and wiggled his eyebrows.
"In your dreams Richmond" Wanda retorted and rolled her eyes.
"Well I know I’m already in yours" I smirked at Jennifer. I scoffed at him and rolled my eyes at his statement. It was entirely false, there was only one man in my dreams.
"Need another reminder of my powers?"
"Well actually it was pretty hot the last time you-"
Before Kyle could finish his sentence I quickly began to change. I felt myself grow taller and taller until I soon towered over Kyle and Wanda. I was beginning to earn more control over She-Hulk but it was usually when I emotional when I struggled. Instead of wanting to rip Kyle to shreds, I decided to show him just what I was capable of. I did this through lifting over 1000 pounds in weights and even managing to knock the punching bag off its chain with one single punch. I left a dent in the wall. After my little show, I turned back into my normal self.
If you could even call me normal.
"Always a show with you. I swear you almost enjoy turning into She-Hulk" Kyle told me with a grin.
"No, your reaction just never gets old" I replied, trying to hide my amusement.
"Plus you need the reminder that a girl can kick your ass at any given moment" Wanda added with a sharp laugh.
"Too true!" I chimed.
"Okay is this little episode of girl power done? Because I need to hit the shower" Wanda and I nodded furiously. Kyle left with a small smile and the towel wrapped around his neck.
"So, is that your work-out done?" Wanda asked with an amused laugh and tilted head. I shook my head, "I didn't break a sweat, you at least need to sweat in a work-out."
"You really don't sound as girly as you look sometimes" Wanda told me with a laugh as she wandered over to the treadmill and put it on almost the highest setting.
I approached another punching bag, the one Kyle had been using all his might on. I slipped on the nearby gloves and began punching the bag. It wasn't just She-Hulk that needed to stay in shape. "I'm not even a girly girl" I laughed, not breaking our conversation.
"You dress like one."
"I like looking neat and tidy" I scoffed, hitting the bag so it went swinging quite a lot. "Still trying to impress someone?" she grinned, "ooo la la."
"No, I like looking respectable" I rolled my eyes playfully and punched the bag again. "Right, if that's the excuse we're going with, then so be it."
I think she was just being playful and nosey like all best friends are. I couldn't help but feel, maybe, Thor and I are making it obvious. But I shook my head, we barely spoke to each other in public and when we did, it was about work or very little chit-chat.
She couldn't know.
She didn't know.
I went to knock on the door of the lab but Stark was coincidentally already opening it, a small smirk formed on his lips as he saw me. "Evening, Walters" he greeted me.
"Hi" I forced a small smile, "is my cousin available?" I asked politely, running a hand through my hair and adjusting my necklace.
"He's in the middle of an experiment at the moment, so you might not want to interrupt him right now" Stark explained. "You look nice today" he added.
I looked down at my outfit, it was a rushed and roughly put together so I had no idea why he'd make such a comment. I glanced back up and nodded, "do you know when he'll be free next?"
"Late next week, maybe?"
"Late next week!" I tried not to raise my voice. "You've got to be kidding me, Stark" I said, looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm not kidding you, miss. He's a very business gentleman."
"Does he at least get time to urinate?" I asked, sounding much more sarcastic than I had hoped. I quickly shook my head, "sorry for that." I apologised for my rude behaviour and brushed a stray hair behind my ear.
"Can you pass on the message that I said 'hi'?"
"Of course" Stark nodded and I smiled politely before leaving. As soon as I had my back turned, anger replaced the smile and I clenched my fists. I hadn't seen him in weeks; he was either too busy, too distracted, too this and too that.
He no longer had 1 minute to spare to his own cousin.
I saw a green pulse run through the vein of my arm as I began to quicken my pace toward a place I had in mind. If only I could remember where it was-
Fury was out the front of the Life-Model Simulator when I approached. He took one glance at me and then looked away, thinking I was just passing.
"Fury, do me a favour and let me in please" I asked quite quickly and hastily, feeling my anger and fury pumping through my blood, making it boil.
"What? Why?" he asked; that's when he noticed my hands and the slight green colour and some of my veins raised. He quickly shoved me toward the simulator.
It was lucky timing because I felt my body quiver and in moments I was She-Hulk.
And standing in the middle of the desert.
What was I supposed to do? Take my anger out on dirt?
